“You Love It” - Olivia Penalva | Review

A good love song never gets old and Olivia Penalva delivers a heartbreaking electro pop ballad about not accepting love from others.

Continuing to prove why she's Canada's latest rising pop sensation, artist Olivia Penalva returns with the announcement of her new single "You Love It." It is the second single from her forthcoming EP.

It can be really hard to understand that the things you are insecure about, someone else could absolutely love about you. If you are a self-proclaimed blabber mouth, think your stomach looks off, the way your hair falls isn’t right, you are nervous about your snoring - whatever it is – someone else can find that endearing and beautiful and loveable.

Olivia’s soft vocals takes a calm piano ballad to an electro pop moment that lifts your heart up. She reflects on her own insecurity and says she “just wants to see the things you see”. To love yourself like someone else loves you isn’t a small feat.

“I think it’s really easy to be hard on ourselves. And in doing that, we tend to forget that other people are capable of loving the parts of ourselves that we hate the most. We convince ourselves that it’s not possible and that we aren’t good enough. But there is someone out there for everyone and hopefully that person can show you just how wonderful you really are.” - Olivia

This track is just sprinkled in sunshine and love. Olivia is an artist that makes songs that empower listeners to love and appreciate themselves but also acknowledge and accept the love of others.

The track comes on the heels of the release of her last singles "Judge Away" & "Ex's" as well as her Western Canadian Music Award (WCMA) nominations for Pop Artist of the Year and Breakout Artist of the Year in 2021. Drawing inspiration from the power icons of pop, Olivia Penalva graces the sound waves with her diligent writing and tenacious vocals. With a range of sonic styles, the singer-songwriter moves from lovely ballads to angsty electronic anthems. Thoughtfully employing music to navigate the trials and tribulations of self-discovery, Olivia has nurtured personal growth amidst her professional challenges and realities.

With her latest single releases, Olivia Penalva continues to show why she is Canada’s latest pop sensation. Since releasing her debut single at the age of 13, the British Columbia native has steadily grown into an all-around artist and a genuine force within the global pop scene over the past decade.

For proof, just look to her October 2020 single “Love Me,” a certified radio hit that racked up over 38 million Tik Tok views, on top of over 7 millions YouTube views. She is owner of Isabelle Music Group and has recently signed to Decoded Music Group/Virgin Music. Olivia was poised to top that with “Ex’s,” as its sultry R&B vibes further display her artistic evolution. Having had the record mixed by Josh Gudwin (Justin Bieber) you are in for a real treat!

Olivia has never had a problem revealing herself through her music, whether that’s meant showing off her confidence and sense of humor, or exposing her vulnerability and insecurity. Having co-written with the likes of Ryan Stewart and Tavish Crowe (Carly Rae Jepsen), Nolan Sipe, Brian Howes and Emily Shackleton, Olivia is telling her story through song in more authentic ways than she ever has.

Known as well to viewers of American Idol and America’s Got Talent for her covers of songs featured on each show, Olivia is not holding anything back on her new original material, and hopes the music will inspire and empower listeners everywhere.
