Looking at the title and band name alone, I wasn’t expecting anything serious. “Things” is a mellow indie/pop-rock song that feels familiar - dare I say nostalgic. It’s like I have musical déjà entendu from hearing a song so new, yet so familiar. The closest comparison I can pinpoint is after listening to Japanese City Pop for the first time. The song’s lyrics, melody, and production are reminiscent of alternative rock and pop elements.
The static-like sound in the background of the chorus stood out to me. It was faint but consistent, so I initially mistook it for a mixing issue. After listening again with headphones, I concluded that the TV static was a production choice to match the audio imagery to the lyrics.
In the chorus (“How I hate this feeling, ashamed I couldn't keep your love, your love, your love”), WACHO! sings about his overall feeling from the breakup with the TV static sound in the background, as if he’s watching replays of the relationship while reminiscing over the breakup.
“Things” is a great song to listen to on a road trip, during study hall, or chilling in your room. It has some syncing potential in a TV drama. “Things” is set to release on January 1, 2025.
