“Thick Skin” by Rich Tuorto is the perfect pick-me-up song for when you feel like nothing’s going your way and you want to give up.
In the song, it sounds like Rich is speaking directly to his inner child and encourages his “kid” persona to keep going even as the voices in his head tell him that he is not enough, and upon further examination, he comes to the realization that it’s his own internal monologue that’s keeping his from success. Sonically, the upbeat tempo and angelic harmonies reassure and comfort the listener.
My absolute favorite part of the song was when Rich sings “Just try to shut it out, so you don’t hear a thing”, leading into a moment where all of the background instruments stop, leaving a moment of clarity and peacefulness, again reflecting the artist’s struggle to quiet his own inner critic. I would recommend saving this song, so that on a bad day, you’ll have something to pick you up and remind you that there is no limit to what you can achieve.
In addition to being a solo artist, Rich Tuorto also spends time producing and writing records for other artists in a variety of different genres, including pop, rock, R&B, and country. Rich currently resides in Brooklyn, NY. Rich Tuorto has released a couple of singles over the past year, such as his recent single “Wildflowers”.
