My top delights are vocals, guitar, bass and drums. Not that surprising considering this is a music blog. However, the way BABO Baby isolates each of the elements in “The Same” highlights the nuances in the production.
The acoustic guitar plucks sparkle in the beginning. The bass has a nice grit to it. The vocals float heavenly. “The Same” feels as if Charli XCX and The Japanese House wrote a love song. BABO Baby has managed to write a love song that captures the moment when someone moves from infatuation to a steady and secure attachment. There is a moment, I would like to believe, where you behold someone and calmly go, “Oh… it’s you. You are the one for me. Of course.” It’s within that moment that “The Same” takes place.
I know people have been calling for “sad girl fall”, but I need a little bit of an onramp to that. “The Same” works well as a good transition from a brat green summer to a warm cozy fall. The lyrics describe a relationship where you feel deeply understood because you “both see the world the same.” This commonality leads to falling in love. Perhaps, the bass is the heart beats from someone falling in love and the sparkling guitars are the loss of breath. Maybe, BABO Baby’s vocals are so consistent because of the validation that comes from feeling seen by loving eyes. You’ll just have to listen to find out. Here’s to a calm fall with love, friendship and merriment to go all around.
