This track and visual from Celine Cairo is absolutely stunning. Rather than the chaos of "spinning out", we are introduced to the more graceful idea of mental "Pirouettes".
This dance-inspired track and video are simple yet stunning. Cairo's vocals are powerful and crisp and filled with emotional depth. There is an incredible dynamic between her voice and the build and flow of the instrumentation. It feels beautifully minimal and raw. Cairo has no extra flourishes, it feels real and direct, right from her. I think Cairo is a powerful talent that we need to keep an eye on.
'Pirouettes' is the last single to appear off Celine Cairo's upcoming album 'Overflow and is accompanied by a stunning directed music video. The video features two contemporary dancers, sisters Gianine & Sherise Strang, who explore their dynamic relationship through improvisation. Inspired by the lyrics, the concept for the video originated from a conversation between artist Celine Cairo and director Louka Hoogendijk on balancing personal space and boundaries in a passionate relationship.
The song was written in London in 2019 by Celine and co-writers Lawrence Diamond (Citizens) and Bob Matthews (Alpines). The three met on one of Celine's earlier writing-trips to the British capital and became friends, as well as frequent writing-partners. The three wrote 4 of the 11 songs on the new album, which was partly produced by renowned London producer Tim Bran (London Grammar, Aurora) and upcoming German producer Benjamin Rheinländer. 'The album 'Overflow' will be out on August 27th.
Born in the heart of Amsterdam, Celine Cairo grew up in a music-loving family. Her father a passionate amateur drummer, her mother an music-enthousiast listening to Fado, Flamenco and Jazz, Celine grew up hearing an eclectic mix of genres.
Celine picked up the guitar after her mom found an old classical guitar on the streets of Amsterdam, had it fixed and gave it to Celine on her 14th birthday. She soon started writing her own songs, performing locally. By the time she was 18 Celine played small venues all over the Netherlands and won a local award that led to a performance in Carnegie Hall, New York. She went on to study music at the Conservatory of Amsterdam and soon found her mentor in British artist and producer Fin Greenall aka FINK. With an acoustic EP she debuted, became a Radio 2 Talent and started headlining across the Netherlands. She eventually left for New York and Los Angeles to write songs for her debut album. She met producer Bill Lefler and ended up recording the album in Los Angeles with her band. "Free Fall" came out in 2016 and has since racked up over 10 million streams. The album won a prestigious Dutch award, was critically acclaimed by some of the Netherlands' best news outlets (NRC, Harper's Bazaar) and music magazines (Oor, Jazzism) and didn't go unnoticed in the blogosphere.
Celine's known for her unique vocal quality and intriguing live performances. She's opened for Dodie, Asgeir, HAEVN, Dotan and played some of Holland's most renowned venues like the Royal Concertgebouw, Paradiso and TivoliVredenburg and she's played Eurosonic/Noorderslag in 2017. She's performed on some of Hollands top tv-shows like De Wereld Draait Door and gained fans in the radio landscape throughout the years.
