“Kickstart My Life” - fakelife | Review

Fakelife returns with a synthy dream pop track that feels like your entering the school dance off your own retro highschool coming of age movie from the first few notes. “Kickstart My Life” features Maya and this collaboration is set to make you feel that perfect blend of nostalgia and optimism.

From funky saxophone moments to that perfect retro indietronica synth we know and love, this track is going to be that love at first sight anthem. This is your new song for your meet cute moment. It is a song about that feeling when you first meet someone that puts that pep back in your step and ignites a spark you may have forgotten you had. Mason Thomas takes it away with an infectiously happy saxophone sound and Maya’s vocals elevate the track to a new level of sunshine and stardust that give it that warm feeling. Truly a collaboration sent from the stars.

Maya Aoki Tuttle - Maya is an LA-based voice actor and musician, known for a variety of roles spanning video games, animation and commercials. Recent voice work includes Pixar's Elemental, Disney's Spidey and His Amazing Friends, Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Destiny 2, Nickelodeon's Big Nate, Cartoon Network's We Baby Bears and Craig of the Creek, and Jimmy Kimmel Live!

The daughter of a Japanese immigrant and an American piano teacher, Maya has always connected to the inclusive nature of performance. An accomplished drummer and singer, she's a founding member of the indie rock band The Colourist (Universal Music / Republic Records), with appearances at Coachella, Last Call With Carson Daly, Modern Drummer Magazine, and the Late Late Show.

Mason Thomas - Mason’s passion for music started early at age seven, when his parents enrolled him in piano lessons. Later he picked up guitar, then saxophone in the school band. Mason would go on to play all of these instruments at the professional level.

While in high school, Mason recorded several rock albums on guitar with his band; he also studied classical saxophone at the Brevard Music Center in North Carolina. While pursuing a Jazz Studies degree at Louisiana State University Mason began working as a full-time musician playing saxophone with several wedding bands around the area. After graduating, Mason relocated to Nashville where he would go on to share the stage with noteworthy artists such as The Temptations, Joey Fatone of NSYNC, Jamey Johnson, and other big names in music.

Fakelife - Couchois’ relationship to music began at the age of seven with the saxophone - and quickly expanded to the piano when his mom taught him how to play at the age of twelve. After several years of playing drums in various punk and hardcore bands, Couchois eventually picked up the guitar when his dad, a former bandmate to Larry Byrom of Steppenwolf, bought him his first acoustic. In fakelife, Matt has found himself back to basics; writing, producing, and mixing all from his bedroom to create a big sound in a small space.

Previously a member of the indie rock band, Max and the Moon, Couchois has shared the stage with many artists such as Broods, Tove Lo, The Neighbourhood, and X- Ambassadors - with a most recent tour accompanying the Psychedelic Furs.
