“Down to the River” - Aaron Holder | Review

Growing up in a Christian household and around music, I’ve heard and sung many songs with the phrase “down to the river”, ranging from school choir, gospel, American-American Spiritual to Christian rock. Aaron Holder’s “Down to the River” brings a bluesy tone that’ll bring chills into the New Year.


The instrumental is reminiscent of Deep South blues. The background vocals already make the song full and complete, like a warm embrace. Aaron’s deep voice at the first chorus sets the stage while his vocals in the 2nd chorus and vocal styles


The lyrics in “Down to the River” are self-explanatory. Aaron sings about his commitment to God, saying he’ll keep praying and counting his blessings, thereby establishing a close relationship with Him. He also thanked the Lord for everything He has done and will do for the future to come.


“Down to the River” is available on January 1, 2025 on all streaming platforms.

Aaron Holder is making a name for himself in the Jewish community with his inspiring songs and moving performances. He has already gained the respect from fans worldwide, playing internationally with various seasoned musicians. Aaron Holder also studied at Bar-Ilan University, where he managed local artists in recording studios. He now plans to break the mold with his debut album “Something Stronger.”


It blurs the boundaries between Jewish and mainstream music by using elements of Folk, Pop, Country, Rock, a hint of Reggae, and laced with a deeply spiritual vibe. The album also has various influences such as Mumford & Sons, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Matisyahu, One Republic, Josh Groban, Simon & Garfunkel, Bruce Springsteen, and Shlomo Carlebach. Many musical talents have a hand in making “Something Stronger” such as 27x gold and platinum musician Steve Gordon, lead singer of Saigon Kick Matt Kramer, and owner of W4M Studios, Ovadiah Tank.


Aaron calls “Something Stronger” a canvas of his own experiences and struggles because the lyrics paint a picture that can be interpreted in many ways, and Aaron’s vocals keep the listeners captivated. After overcoming challenges of learning disabilities and being bullied as a kid, he took strength from his Jewish background.


He wrote teachings of the Lubavitcher Rebbe and Menachem Mendel Shneerson installed a positive outlook on life, which gave him strength to remain true to himself and use his uniqueness to create a masterpiece.


When he returned to Miami, he completed his Associates in Music Education and is now completing his Bachelors in Music at Florida International University School of Music.
