“Detached” by Estella Dawn | REVIEW

Estella Dawn is back with another track for 2024. Her newly released song “Detached” will have you rethinking breakups. She released the single on November 1st, subtly reminding everyone of their New Year’s resolutions before starting 2025.

Right off the first 30 seconds, I thought it was a country rock song. The lyrics depict/paint a woman detaching herself from a POS ex. There’s also a radio-friendly version for people who aren’t comfortable with the excessive amount of swearing. Though the instrumental contrasts her popular hits “514 Denim” and “Locked In”, it brings a similar aura. Despite the heavy electric guitar dominating the (post)chorus and Dawn’s vocalizing hooks, its melodic aura is enough to sing along out loud while the song plays in the background.

Dawn’s vocals in “Detached” remind me of Carrie Underwood's voice because it’s powerful, forward, and carries the entire song. If “Cowboy Casanova” and “Good Girl” are girl’s girl anthems with an edge of sass that warns women about no-good guys, “Detached” is a girl’s girl anthem that brings a direct, brutal diss to the POS ex after numerous people warned you about him.

I could imagine “Detached” in a TV series like Elite. When one of the characters goes through a post-breakup, this song will play in the background.
