‘Desirée’ is the perfect depiction of the adrenaline rush that comes with the infatuation of someone new.
The production style of this piece is what I would describe as whimsical distortion— the kind of sound that makes you want to roll your windows down and drive through the city, complete with flashing lights and high speeds. Nothing about this song is stagnant— the music, the lyrics, and the way Brooke presents her incredible vocals are all rooted in movement and pace. The tossing and turning of wanting someone unattainable is palpable through every aspect of this song. Brooke says it best herself: “Just something about your love / It keeps me up.”
Written and produced entirely by Brooke, in her Brooklyn apartment, ‘Desirée’ is an example of undeniable talent. At twenty-one years old, Brooke has already created and executed a sound that works for her in incredible ways. Through exploring what it feels like to be young, queer, and free in New York City, Brooke captures the angst and excitement that comes with the territory. Be sure to give ‘Desirée’ a listen!
