"Dear Los Angeles" - golda | Review

Dear Los Angeles transports you to a world of sepia tone listening.

Golda's awe-inspiring vocals are nothing shy of incredible. This song feels like a sound track to a hazy love story. Full of heartbreak and soaring melodic tones, golda brings listeners another single to obsess over.

The newcomer turned heads in 2019 with the release of her buzzing single "Wish I Was Someone Else," which continues to land itself on HypeMachine's Popular Charts. After garnering the attention of tastemakers, label heads, fans and more, the release of golda's sophomore track "Under," only further secured her spot as a powerful artist to watch in 2020.

Single "Dear Los Angeles" is a stunning force to be reckoned with. Golda's distinct voice takes center stage in this stripped-down ballad. Embracing her operatic roots with stunning vocal runs and soaring crescendos, golda gets real and honest in this ode to Los Angeles as she proclaims "Dear Los Angeles, you're breaking me down...I wish I knew how to get myself out of here." Not only does golda possess the songwriting prowess of talents like Lorde, YEBBA and Phoebe Bridgers, but she has a sensational skill for crafting catchy songs that are full of sincerity.

golda grew up in both Chicago and San Diego to Ukrainian parents who only spoke Russian in the house. At the ripe age of 5 years old, golda discovered her love for music when she taught herself how to sing opera.

golda's maturity shines through her writing which she began developing at a young age. She wrote her first song in 7th grade, "Genocide in Darfur," inspired after learning about those horrific happenings.

"I started taking songwriting more seriously in college when I began recording an EP after a school trip to India," she says. "When I was 22, I worked as an assistant for a music manager who sort of 'discovered' me as a songwriter and started developing me, leading me to get really involved in the L.A. pop-writing scene. I turned my attention to my own artist project after really missing writing songs that felt like me, like golda."

The now L.A.-based artist has finally started releasing her new music, for the first time in 4 years! "Wish I Was Someone Else," "Under" and "Dear Los Angeles" are a fantastic intro to the golda EP (due out later this year), which features three more stunning tracks - all of which are evocative and beautiful in different ways.
